This is a nice concise overview of the fiscal cliff. You can stop it half way through when he gets to the Grover Norquist tax pledge.

The WashPost has a nice article that neatly breaks down the "fiscal cliff" including some nice charts.

I remember hearing about a proposed date which would be when the fiscal cliff issue being solved which was before Christmas. The radio mentioned that a major Republican congressmen (I think it was the Majority Whip) was more in favor of working with the Democrats to solving the problem before the New Year.

I think I heard the same thing Ben said, but then in an interview with CNN, it was stated that hopefully it would be passed during the New Year, like January 1st. I do know that Boehner wants higher tax rates on the wealthy and to raise the eligibility age for Medicare. The voters will probably not react favorably to this turn of events.
