Breaking News: Tuesday the Senate passed a Food Safety Bill at a cost of $1.4 billion over the next five years to increase FDA inspections of domestic and imported food.

The FDA should not be able to take money from food and drug companies. When they do this they open themselves up to questioning from the public. They public will have a negative view of the FDA and will assume that there could be bribery involved. These thoughts of bribery could lead to people thinking that their food may not be as safe as the FDA says. The best possible solution would be to take the FDA off of the pay roll of these food and drug companies.
This is really outrageous. At times like this, our country should be saving as much money as possible to get out of the recession. And now the government has turned into a market where you have to pay to keep yourself healthy. I agree with Brian; this issue would lead to dispute and distrust of the government, a body that tricks people and forces them to pay money.
